Monrovia – August 28, 2018: It has come to the attention of Hon. Nathaniel R. Patray, III, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), that the Managing Director (MD) of Guaranty Trust Bank Liberia Limited (GT Bank), Mr. Ayodeji Bejide, has allegedly assaulted an employee of the bank.

 

Executive Governor Patray immediately summoned the Board of Directors of GT Bank and issued them the following directives:

 

1. Suspension without pay of Mr. Bejide, with immediate effect and for time indefinite, pending a thorough investigation of the above mentioned allegations by the Board;

 

2. The appointment of the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Amazu Nwachukwu, as Acting MD until the conclusion of the aforesaid investigation;

 

3. Submission to the CBL, within 48 hours, of the Board’s intended course of action to address this grave matter.

 

The CBL Management will review the GT Bank Board’s recommendations. Thereafter, it will ensure the strictest implementation of the Bank’s mitigative actions.

 

The GT Bank Board has expressed deep regret for this alleged incident and has further informed the CBL that a senior executive from its parent company, GT Bank Nigeria, is arriving in Liberia on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 to assist in the investigation. Signed:
