MONROVIA, October 29, 2019: The Deputy Governor for Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), Dr. Musa Dukuly, has been appointed to serve as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) at the CBL. Dr. Dukuly was appointed by His Excellency President George Manneh Weah, following the resignation of Hon. Nathaniel R. Patray III on October 25, 2019. He is expected to serve in that role pending the appointment and subsequent confirmation of a new Executive Governor.

 

In a senior staff meeting called on Monday, October 28, 2019, the Officer-In-Charge spoke of the difficult task ahead in the monetary sector of the country and urged staff to remain more committed and dedicated in the performance of their duties. Dr. Dukuly called for sacrifice, concerted engagement and more collaboration as the Bank endeavors to tackle the numerous challenges affecting its operations, including plans of entry into the IMF Program.

 

The OIC reminded the staff of the economic challenges facing the country and the financial sector, encouraging staff to be more understanding as the Bank strategies to overcome the difficulties.  “There may be more difficult decisions ahead; decisions that may not be welcoming but are in the interest of the Bank and country,” he noted. Dr. Dukuly assured the staff that his office will remain transparent and committed as efforts are being exerted to ease the macroeconomic challenges facing the country.

 

Also speaking at the senior staff meeting, the Acting Deputy Governor for Operations, Madam Nyemadi D. Pearson, called for a cordial working relationship among the staff.  Madam Pearson spoke of the austerity measures being implemented by the CBL.  She said the measures are aimed at streamlining the operational expenses of the institution and called for cooperation and understanding as the Bank undertakes these cost-saving measures.

 

In separate remarks, Heads of departments and units, welcomed the appointment of Dr. Dukuly and promised to continue to work with the team in a collaborative manner for the upliftment of the CBL.
