Governor Weeks presenting to President Sirleaf

 

MONROVIA– Sept. 30, 2016: The Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), Mr. Milton A. Weeks, Thursday, September 29, 2016, presentedspecimen of the initial series of the newly printed denominationsof the Liberian Dollar banknotes to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The specimen included series of denominations ranging from LD $5 to LD$100.

 

Making the presentation at the President’s Foreign Ministry office, Governor Weeks said the newly printed Liberian Dollar banknotes which were printed by Crane Currency, a major bank note printer, are of high quality and contain features which cannot easily be duplicated. Governor Weeks thanked the President for the support given the Central Bank in the process.

 

Responding, the Liberian leader thanked Governor Weeks and Team for the hard work and level of professionalism. In separate remarks, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai and Senate Pro-Tempore, Armah Jallah thanked Governor Weeks and team for a job well done and urged them to create more awareness on how citizens should handle the new bank notes. 

 

The new series includes, among others, the unifying nature of the existing Liberian Banknotes, and as such, has maintained all previous portraits. The CBL has also reinforced the security features in the new series, which are both visible and invisible.  In addition, the Bank has ensured that the new series is printed on a higher quality substrate to guarantee longevity and reduce porosity. The new series also introduces a new denomination of L$500 (Five Hundred Dollars), in addition to the present denominations.

 

Thursday’s presentation was also witnessed by the Deputy Governor for Economic Policy, Dr. Mounir Siaplay as well as Senator Commany B. Wesseh of Rivergee County.
