Scores of employees of the Central Bank of Liberia on Friday, March 8 joined women around the world to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) under the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress".
This year’s global theme aligns perfectly with the CBL's commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
Leading the CBL delegation at the ceremony held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town was Madam Nyemadi Pearson, CBL Deputy Governor for Operations.
The IWD national celebration, which was organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, brought together dignitaries, government officials, civil society organizations, students, and the business community, amongst others.
The program commenced with a vibrant parade from 72nd Boulevard Junction to the Ministerial Complex, signifying Liberian women's collective energy and spirit.
The indoor program provided a platform for inspiring speeches and celebration of women's achievements under the national theme, “Investing in Women, Investing in Liberia”.
Mrs. Katumu Yatta Boakai, First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, delivering remarks on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. emphasized that “investing in women is synonymous with investing in the nation's future.”
She highlighted the critical role women play in maintaining peace and stability – a cornerstone of Liberia's continued progress.
The First Lady lauded the contributions of exceptional Liberian women, both past and present, for serving as role models for the young generation while also encouraging young women to embrace education, pursue their ambitions, and contribute their unique talents to shaping Liberia's bright future.
The Central Bank of Liberia recognizes the immense potential women hold as agents of positive change with staunch commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women economically and create a level playing field for their participation in all spheres of Liberian society.
